Every account should have a Site Address. There are always exceptions and on a rare occasion an account may not have a Site Address.
Each field entered in AAVS for Site Address should be entered in a standard method.
NUMBER – Number is the number portion of an address and should be entered as shown underlined and bold below.

NUMBER SFX – This is an extension of the NUMBER and should be entered as shown underlined and bold below.

DIR – Is used for East E, West W, North N, and South S. It is best practice to abbreviate these DIRECTIONAL indicators in the Site Address, but what is of utmost importance is that the DIRECTIONAL indicator be done the same way for all properties in the county.
STREET NAME – This field should be evident with little explanation. See examples below for STREET NAME entries. Street names vary greatly and can often be entered one of several ways. Therefore, it is important the STREET NAME be entered the same for all properties on the given street, particularly within a given county. Where a STREET NAME can have several interpretations, only one method should be used. Do not use periods after abbreviations. See below:

STREET TYPE – This entry is from a list of drop downs. Should a desired drop down not exist, contact the AAVS Administrator to add a drop down Street Type name.
SUFFIX DIR – This is a directional value given at the end of a STREET NAME and STREET TYPE. When entering a SUFFIX DIR it is important to be entered the same for all properties on the given street, particularly within a given county. These directional suffixes must also be consistent and in unison with 911 addresses according to the county. See the underlined and bold below.

UNIT – Typically a UNIT number is entered after all other official address characters have been entered. UNIT numbers should not be confused as part of the address Number or NUMBER SFX. UNIT number or letters should be entered as shown underlined and bold below. Do not include the word Unit or the # sign in the UNIT field.

Condominiums often have Unit numbers. Condominium entry will be discussed later in this procedure.
CITY - This entry is from a list of drop downs. Should a desired drop down not exist, contact the AAVS Administrator to add a drop down name.
ZIP – Properties should include the first five digits. The second four digits are optional if known when entering a Site Address.

BLD - This entry is from a list of drop downs. Accounts can sometimes have multiple buildings with multiple Site addresses if multiple buildings exist on the account. In AAVS, multiple Site Addresses can be added on one account. It is imperative that Line 1 of the Site Address entry area holds the primary Site Address as only the Site Address on Line 1 is searchable on the website and printed on property record cards. When adding a Line 2 for a second Site Address, be sure to verify the primary Site Address already entered on Line 1 remains on Line 1.

Condominiums present a unique set of addresses commanding special attention.
Example #1: XYZ Condominium
Condominium XYZ has two buildings.
Building #1 is located at 1215 Elm Street N Unit 1A, Frostburg, MD 20850

Note in Condominium Example #2, all Site Addresses are the same with only the Unit # in the UNIT field differentiating them.
Miscellaneous
There are instances when a property sits off a road or behind a house with no real number address. These properties should only reference the legal address determination. For example, if a property is behind 122 Ranger Dr, the Site Address should only read Ranger Dr, not Off or Behind 122 Ranger Dr. To help with actual location in the field, Off or Behind should be in the Legal Description.
